Champions League preview – Manchester City vs Real Madrid prediction.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure could be ruled out of contention after picking up a knock against Stoke on Saturday although the Ivorian star was by no means a certain starter having been on the bench for the Champions League quarter-final a fortnight ago. Fernando was taken off in the first half as a precaution and is expected to be fit but Bacary Sagna is doubtful as he races to recover from a back problem.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed Saturday’s La Liga game for Real Madrid with a groin strain but is expected to take part on Tuesday. Prospects aren’t so good for Karim Benzema who limped off in the first half with a knee injury and the striker may miss the first leg. Full-back Daniel Carvajal is struggling with an ankle injury and may have to sit this out while Luka Modric and Casemiro are expected to return to midfield.

Possible Line-ups

Manchester City 4-2-3-1 formation: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Otamendi, Clichy; Fernando, Fernandinho; Navas, Silva, Bruyne; Aguero

Real Madrid 4-3-3 formation: Navas; Danilo, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo; Kroos, Casemiro, Modric; Bale, Vazquez, Ronaldo

Manchester City vs Real Madrid Prediction

City caused an upset when eliminating PSG with a 3-2 aggregate victory in the quarter-finals. Juventus are the only team to have beaten Man City who lost both games to the Italians in this season’s group stage. They are unbeaten in the last seven competitive matches with five wins and two draws. Manuel Pellegrini’s men were unimpressive when playing a 1-1 draw with Newcastle at St James’ Park last Tuesday but looked much better when cruising to a 4-0 victory against Stoke City at Etihad stadium at the weekend.   Real Madrid overcame a 2-0 first leg deficit to beat Wolfsburg 3-2 on aggregate in the previous round and won their fifth consecutive game when defeating Rayo Vallecano 3-2 on Saturday. Real have won eight of ten Champions League games so far this season, a 0-0 draw away to PSG in the group stage being the only other time they have failed to win. Real Madrid have not always shown their best form when playing away this season but should be strong enough to secure a lead for the second leg.
