FA Cup preview – Liverpool vs West Ham prediction.

Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne pulled out of the League Cup tie in midweek with a knee injury and is doubtful for the FA Cup clash with West Ham on Saturday. Central defender Dejan Lovren could be considered having recovered from a hamstring injury to make the bench on Tuesday. Philippe Coutinho and Martin Skrtel are expected to take a little longer to recover from similar problems. Divock Origi is recovering from minor knee surgery that will keep him sidelined until mid-February.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is expecting James Tomkins to recover from the knock that kept him out of Saturday’s draw against Manchester City. His replacement, Carl Jenkinson, was forced off with a knee ligament injury and will be sidelined. Manuel Lanzini is close to a return from a muscular injury that has kept him out of action since West Ham beat Liverpool 2-0 at Boleyn Ground in the league on 2 January. Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho are definite absentees.

Prediction

Liverpool booked their place in a Wembley final on Tuesday when beating Stoke City on penalties after losing the League Cup semi-final second leg 1-0 in normal time. The Reds took two attempts to eliminate League Two minnows Exeter City in the FA Cup third round to set up the fourth round clash with West Ham. Liverpool’s home record has been dented by two defeats in the last three games at Anfield (0-1 v Manchester United and 0-1 v Stoke) making four defeats from 17 home games in all competitions.

West Ham defeated Liverpool in two previous meetings this season, 3-0 at Anfield in August and 2-0 at Boleyn Ground in January. The Hammers have the fourth best away record in the Premier League, although they lost the last away game 2-1 at Newcastle which ended a run of four successive wins and nine games unbeaten. They defeated Championship side Wolverhampton 1-0 at home to reach the FA Cup fourth round.

Liverpool continue to progress in two domestic cup competitions and the Europa League and can avenge those defeats inflicted by West Ham earlier in this season.
