West Ham take on Manchester City in the FA Cup this Friday. Read the match predictions to find out why an away win is the betting tip at the Olympic Stadium. The Hammers come into this match on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United. Meanwhile, the Citizens managed to win 2-1 at home to Burnley, despite being down to 10 men half an hour in.
West Ham vs Manchester City Preview
West Ham had Sofiane Feghouli sent off in the defeat to Man utd but his suspension has been overturned so he’s free to play here. That could mean Michail Antonio moving to right-back and Andy Carroll starting as the central striker. Mark Noble may once again watch on, with the midfield trio of Lanzini, Obiang and Kouyate preferred.
Man City will be without skipper Fernandinho, following his red card in the win over Burnley. Sergio Aguero is expected to come back into the side, having started as a substitute last time out. John Stones and David Silva are also in line for recalls, with Gael Clichy the most likely player to drop to the bench.
Team Predictions West Ham vs Manchester City

Man City 4-1-4-1 formation: Bravo; Kolarov, Stones, Otamendi, Sagna; Toure; Sterling, Silva, De Bruyne, Navas; Aguero

- Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Man City have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game

West Ham vs Manchester City Prediction
West Ham have lost back-to back matches and perhaps more alarmingly, have failed to score in both of those defeats. The red card for Sofiane Feghouli is open to debate but the Hammers’ lack of attacking bite is not. Only once in their last five outings have they scored more than once and that was against relegation candidates Swansea City.
Manchester City are in good form, with a 1-0 defeat away to Liverpool their only dropped points in the last five matches. They’re not out of the title race but Pep Guardiola will be keen to win a trophy in his first season as manager and the FA Cup may provide an easier option. I can see the visitors naming as near as possible to a full strength side here.
Manchester City have won 10 of the last 15 meetings with West Ham in all competitions, including a comfortable 3-1 success at the Etihad back in August. With the hosts struggling for goals, I can only see this going one way. The tip is a comfortable 2-0 win for Man City.

Premier League preview – West Ham vs Manchester City prediction.
Andy Carroll’s return to the West Ham treatment table and Diafra Sakho’s continues absence means Enner Valencia can continue in the centre forward role. Manager Slaven Bilic’s only other injury concern is midfielder Manuel Lanzini who is expected to be out for a month with a thigh muscle strain.
Injuries to Eliaquim Mangala and Vincent Kompany means Manchester City will start with Otamendi and Demichelis as the central defensive pairing. Yaya Toure started on the bench against Crystal Palace on Saturday but should return to the starting eleven at Boleyn Ground. Wilfried Bony and Fernandinho are doubtful while Samir Nasri is unlikely to play any further part this season.
Possible Line-ups
West Ham: 4-3-3 formation: Adrian; Tomkins, Collins, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Obiang, Kouyate, Noble; Antonio, Valencia, Payet
Manchester City: 4-2-3-1 formation: Hart; Zabaleta, Otamendi, Demichelis, Kolarov; Fernando, Toure; De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling; Aguero
Statistics
- West Ham have won 4 drawn 5 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
- Manchester City have won 6 drawn 2 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
- Over the course of their previous 10 matches, West Ham have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 0.6 goals per game
- Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Manchester City have scored an average of 2.1 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of West Ham’s previous 10 matches
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Manchester City’s previous 10 matches
Prediction
West Ham lost 2-1 at Newcastle on Saturday to bring to an end a run of four successive victories and nine games unbeaten. The Hammers have not lost a home game since the first month of the season although City will be the highest ranked team to visit Boleyn Ground since West Ham lost 2-1 against Leicester in August. However, the Hammers have an otherwise good record against the top sides, defeating City at Etihad Stadium in September as well as Arsenal and Liverpool on their own patch.
Manchester City continue to blow hot and cold. They won their last away game in the Premier League, 2-1 at Watford on 2 January, breaking a streak of six away games without a win. Pellegrini’s men have made three trips to the capital this term, defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 before losing 4-1 to Tottenham and 2-1 against Arsenal.
West Ham won this fixture when underdogs last season and could do it again with players like Payet, Valencia and Kouyate in the side.
