Europa League preview – Celtic vs Fenerbahce prediction

Celtic are without Charlie Mulgrew, who is injured and Emilio Izaguirre, who is out through suspension. Saidy Janko and Tyler Blackett are competing to fill in at left-back. Striker Leigh Griffiths has been in the news following a suspended domestic two game ban and fine but should still be in contention to play.

Fenerbahce are without winger Lazar Markovic, who is injured and also Gokhan Gonul, for the same reason. Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie had to settle for a place on the bench at the weekend but may start from the off at Celtic Park, especially as he found the back of the net minutes after being introduced.

Possible Line-ups

Celtic: 4-2-3-1 formation: Gordon; Lustig, Boyata, Ambrose, Janko; Bitton, Brown; Mackay-Steven, Commons, Forrest; Griffiths

Fenerbahce: 4-3-3 formation: Demirel; Ozbayrakli, Kjaer, Alves, Kaldrim; Tufan, Topal, Meireles; Sen, van Persie, Nani

Prediction

Celtic opened off their Europa League campaign with an entertaining 2-2 draw at Ajax, a result which could prove to be very good in the long run. Domestic league form is stuttering at the moment but when it comes to European nights at Celtic Park, they become very difficult to beat and will be aiming to build on their point last time out with a win.

Fenerbahce tasted defeat against rivals Besiktas in the Turkish league at the weekend and were passed by their opponents in the league table. Their first Europa League result was also poor, losing at home to Molde 3-1. This was a game they really needed to win, in order to stand a real chance of progressing and they are now chasing after points away from home.

Fenerbahce put a good run of away results together in the 2012/13 Europa League and have the talent in their team to cause Celtic problems. Ronny Deila is under pressure to get a positive result here and at home, his team may just do that.
