Europa League preview – Dnipro vs Lazio prediction

Dnipro manager Myron Markevych only has one real injury concern ahead of the game and that’s the fitness of Roman Zozulya. Otherwise, last season’s finalists are at full-strength and should put out their strongest available line-up.

Lazio on the other hand, have a number of injury concerns to deal with. Stefano Pioli is without the likes of Filip Djordjevic, Stefan de Vrij, Lucas Biglia and Miroslav Klose, many of which would usually be a first choice selection. However, there could still be room for some rotation with Felipe Anderson, Alessandro Matri and Ricardo Kishna pushing for a start.

Possible Line-ups

Dnipro: 4-2-3-1 formation: Boyko; Pico, Gueye, Douglas, Matos; Fedorchuk, Rotan; Matheus, Danilo, Luchkevych; Seleznyov

Lazio: 4-2-3-1 formation: Marchetti; Basta, Mauricio, Hoedt, Radu; Parolo, Cataldi; Candreva, Anderson, Kishna; Keita

Statistics

  • Dnipro have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Lazio have won 4 and lost 6 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Dnipro have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Lazio have scored an average of 1 goal and conceded an average of 1.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Dnipro’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Lazio’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Having started their domestic season poorly, Dnipro have turned things around of late and are enjoying a good spell of form. A recent 2-0 victory at Shakhtar Donetsk was followed up with a good 4-1 away win at the weekend, meaning Dnipro have won all of their previous 5 matches going in to this one.

Lazio will be very disappointed to find themselves in the Europa League as opposed to the Champions League. Having lost 3-0 to Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, they then went on to lose 4-0 at Chievo in Serie A. However, the 2-0 win over Udinese in Rome at the weekend was a timely boost ahead of this match and will give the team a bit of confidence.

That being said, Dnipro are the team in form and also have home advantage, where they have won all of their last 5 matches in the Europa League, without conceding a goal. It’s difficult to look beyond a Dnipro win.
