Euro 2016 football tips – Belarus vs Spain prediction

Belarus have been forced to cope with a number of withdrawals ahead of their Euro 2016 Group C qualifier with Spain. Dmitri Verkhovtsov, Sergei Balanovich and Mikhail Gordeychuk are all unavailable for selection. The experience of Aliaksandr Hleb, could be crucial in midfield.

Spain are likely to play a similar team to that which defeated Ukraine in their last qualifying match. That means David De Gea will continue to watch on from the bench as Iker Casillas keeps his place in goal. After a good season with Chelsea, Cesc Fabregas is in contention for a place in midfield but could miss out as Koke, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta will probably start.

Probable Line-ups

Belarus: 4-3-2-1 formation: Chernik; Bordachev, Filipenko, Martynovich, Shitov; Dragun, Kislyak, Hleb; Putsila, Krivets; Kornilenko

Spain: 4-3-3 formation: Casillas; Juanfran, Pique, Ramos, Alba; Koke, Busquets, Iniesta; Silva, Isco, Morata

  • Belarus have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Spain have won 5 and lost 5 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Belarus have scored an average of 2 goals and conceded an average of 1.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Spain have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Belarus’ previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Spain’s previous 10 matches
  • The first meeting between these teams ended in a comfortable 3-0 win for Spain

With just one win from their opening five games, Belarus must take something from this match, if they are to stand any chance of claiming a play-off spot. Having been held in Luxembourg and with losses at home to Ukraine and Slovakia, it seems unlikely that Belarus have what it takes to trouble a strong Spain side.

The Spanish sit in second place in Group C, courtesy of the 2-1 defeat in Slovakia. Vicente Del Bosque’s men recovered somewhat with three victories, leaving them 3 points behind Slovakia in the table. With Slovakia and Ukraine in with a good chance of winning their fixtures, Spain can not afford any mistakes in Barysaw.

The up and down nature of Spain’s form makes this game less straight forward than it should be but La Roja should have enough to take all 3 points.

We say: Spain to win by 2 goals at 3/1 with Bet365
