Euro 2016 football tips – Ireland vs Scotland prediction

Shay Given’s form for Aston Villa towards then of the Premier League season, means he is contention for a starting place in goal, along with Keiren Westwood. Robbie Keane, who missed the match against England is likely to return and partner Jonathan Walters up-front.

Craig Gordon is also hoping to keep his place in goal for Scotland, as David Marshall competes for a starting place between the sticks. Without a great deal of options in attack, Everton’s Steven Naismith could get the nod up-front, with Charlie Adam and Shaun Maloney supporting from midfield.

Probable Line-ups

Ireland: 4-4-2 formation: Westwood; Ward, Wilson, O’Shea, Coleman; McGeady, McCarthy, Whelan, McClean; Keane, Walters

Scotland: 4-2-3-1 formation: Gordon; Hutton, Martin, Berra, Forsyth; Brown. McArthur; Ritchie, Adam, Maloney; Naismith

  • Ireland have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Scotland have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Ireland have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Scotland have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Ireland’ previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Scotland’s previous 10 matches
  • The first meeting between these teams ended 1-0 in favour of Scotland

Following a great 1-1 draw against world champions Germany, Ireland only picked up 1 point from their two Euro 2016 qualifying games. A 1-1 draw at home to Poland was proceeded by a 1-0 defeat in Scotland. These results mean that Ireland have to win this game to keep themselves in contention at the top of Group D.

Scotland have made a good start to the group and currently sit 2 points ahead of Ireland in third place. This is Scotland’s most difficult away match remaining in the group and positive result here will set them in good stead for their remaining fixtures. With just one defeat, in a friendly against England, from their last seven games, Scotland will be confident of picking up at least point.

With neither team scoring many goals, other than against Gibraltar, this has the makings of a low scoring draw.

We say: Draw and under 2.5 goals at 5/2 with Bet365
