Gijon centre back Bernado Espinosa damaged his cruciate ligament in the 2-0 defeat at Villarreal a week past Sunday and will be out for the remainder of the season. Jorge Mere deputised against Real Madrid at the weekend and looks set to continue alongside Luis Hernandez. Leading scorer Antonio Sanabria is expected to be a part of the lineup after starting from the bench on Sunday.
Imanol Agirretxe is hopeful of returning to the Sociedad lineup after missing the last three games with a sprained ankle. The 28-year-old striker has scored 12 goals in 15 league appearances and is vital to the club’s hopes of finishing in the top half. Midfielders Sergio Canales, David Zurutuza and Estaban Granero remain sidelined.

Prediction
Sporting Gijon are on course to return to the second division unless they can turn around recent results. Aberlado Fernandez’ team has lost five consecutive league games to drop into the bottom three, and eight of the last nine in La Liga. Four of the last five have been on the road and it is hoped a return to El Molinon will spark a change of fortune. Gijon have won two home games so far this season, defeating Malaga 1-0 in November and Las Palmas 3-1 in December. In the same period, they have lost at home to Levante (0-3) and Getafe (1-2) last time.
Sociedad are unbeaten in the last three games and have lost two in the last seven. A haul of nine points from the last seven games has seen Eusebio Sacristan’s men inch away from the relegation zone since the start of December. Sociedad have been reasonably effective when visiting teams in the lower reaches. Defeating Granada (3-0) and Levante (4-0) while picking up a point at Rayo earlier this month (2-2).
