Premier League preview – Aston Villa vs Leicester prediction.

Aston Villa picked up their first win since the opening day of the season in midweek and Remi Garde may be tempted to stick with the winning formula for the visit of Leicester. It would mean no place for Carlos Sanchez and Alan Hutton who are ready for a return to action. Gabriel Agbonlahor and Jack Grealish are doubtful of making the squad this weekend while Adama Traore has a longer wait as he recovers from a metatarsal fracture.

Claudio Ranieri has no new injury concerns and Leicester are also likely to start with the same lineup that proved successful at Tottenham on Wednesday. Hoping to regain his scoring touch is 15-goal striker Jamie Vardy who has now gone five games without a goal, unthinkable given his form in the first half of the season. Jeff Schlupp remains sidelined with a hamstring problem while Matthew James is getting closer to recovery from the knee injury that has denied him taking part this season.

Possible Line-ups

Aston Villa: 4-3-3 formation: Bunn; Bacuna, Okore, Lescott, Cissokho; Veretout, Gueye, Westwood; Gil, Kozak, Ayew

Leicester: 4-4-2 formation: Schmeichel; Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs; Albrighton, Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez; Okazaki, Vardy

Statistics

  • Aston Villa have won 1 drawn 4 and lost 5 of their last 10 matches
  • Leicester have won 5 drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Aston Villa have scored an average of 0.8 goals and conceded an average of 1.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Leicester have scored an average of 1.5 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Aston Villa’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Leicester’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Aston Villa’s first clean sheet since early November was rewarded with three points when Jolean Lescott popped up with the winner against Crystal Palace on Tuesday. Villa have now taken five points from the last five games and the players will have received a huge boost from only their second victory of the season.

It seems Leicester have no-one to step up when the goals dried up for Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. The Foxes failed to score in three successive games prior to the 1-0 victory at White Hart Lane. It has been the defenders turn to take centre stage with three clean sheets in the last three games and centre half Robert Huth grabbed a late winner to take three points from Tottenham.

Leicester’s goal threat may be diminished but the team is still playing at a high level and should be too good for Villa.
