Premier League preview – Aston Villa vs Swansea prediction

Aston Villa have a number of players returning to fitness but it remains to be seen who will be available to start this game for Tim Sherwood. Gabby Agbonlahor and Ciaran Clark are the most likely to be available with Gary Gardner, Jores Okore and Tiago Ilori perhaps making the bench.

Garry Monk has a fully fit squad to choose from and no suspension concerns and could make some changes from the team which lost at home to Stoke last time out. The main change should see attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson return to the starting XI, probably in place of Modou Barrow.

Possible Line-ups

Aston Villa: 4-2-3-1 formation: Guzan; Hutton, Richards, Clark, Richardson; Westwood, Gueye; Gil, Grealish, Ayew; Gestede

Swansea: 4-2-3-1 formation: Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor; Sung-Yeung, Shelvey; Montero, Sigurdsson, Ayew; Gomis

Prediction

The pressure is continuing to build on Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood and anything other than a win here, could mean the end of his time at Villa Park. It’s difficult to make a case for Aston Villa to win this game, other than perhaps the form of their opponents. Villa have lost their last five Premier League games, conceding 10 goals in the process and scoring only five goals themselves. They are also yet to win a home game in the Premier League this season.

As mentioned above, Swansea’s form has also been poor of late. They have failed to win any of their last six games, with their last victory being the 2-1 win over Manchester United at the end of August. That run of results has seen Swansea slide down the table, with no real sign that things are about to improve, especially if the game against Stoke last week is anything to go by.

Aston Villa, Swansea and Sunderland are the only teams in the Premier League not to have won at least one of their last five games. Chances are, this trend could continue come the final whistle at Villa Park.
