Premier League preview – Leicester vs Arsenal prediction

Leicester will be looking to build on their tremendous start to the season with Saturdays visit of Arsenal. The Foxes find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League under Ranieri, one place above the Gunners. The former Chelsea boss had made ten changes to the first team for the midweek League Cup game against West Ham and this will almost certainly not be the same line up for the Arsenal game. Leicester will be without Dyer, Hamer, James, Konchesky, Lawrence and Moore for Saturdays game.

Arsenal have had an indifferent campaign so far and have lost two of their last three matches, however a win against rivals Tottenham will have done much to improve spirits in the camp this week. Akpom, Rosicky, Sanogo, Szczesny, Welbeck, Wilshere and Zelalem are all out with injuries and it as of yet is still being unclear whether or not Coquelin will feature in the game.

Possible Line-ups

Leicester: 4-2-3-1 – Schmeichal, de Laet, Morgan, Huth, Schlupp, Inler, Drinkwater, Albrighton, Mahrez, Kante, Vardy

Arsenal: 4-2-3-1 – Cech, Bellerin, Gabriel Paulista, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin (injury permitting), Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez, Walcot

Statistics

  • Leicester have played Arsenal a total of 18 times but have only once beaten them, over twenty years ago in the 94/95 season.
  • Leicester are unbeaten in their last ten games, winning 6; however they have won just once in the last four.
  • Leicester have scored in every game so far this season with an average goals per match ration of 2.3 compared with Arsenal’s record of one goal per game.
  • Leicester have not kept any clean sheets yet this season whereas Arsenal have had 5 clean sheets in 10 games.

Prediction

Any weariness Leicester fans may have felt when Ranieri was appointed in the summer has all but evaporated now as Leicester find themselves fourth in the league. Although it is still early days, their fast flowing attacking play has caught many an admirers eye with their ‘score one more than you’ approach. They will have to have their shooting boots on to beat Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech though, who has kept 5 clean sheets in the last 10 games.

Although having a relatively indifferent start to the 2015/16 campaign, it is always a foolish thing to do to write Arsenal off. I firmly believe after their midweek win over fierce rivals Tottenham they will be raring to set the same standard in the league and can see that starting with an away win over Leicester on Saturday.
