Premier League preview – Liverpool vs Manchester United prediction.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been training on his own at Melwood and it would be a surprise if rumours of a return against Manchester United are true. It seems Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke do not fit well in the same team and Jurgen Klopp could go with Firmino to start following his brace against Arsenal. January loan signing Steven Caulker could be considered for a place in defence where Dejan Lovren remains doubtful and Martin Skrtel is sidelined for the rest of the month.

Michael Carrick is set to return to the Manchester United starting eleven with Marouane Fellaini’s midfield place under threat. Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are competing for a place at Anfield. Lingard may make way given the reaction of his manager when spurning a golden opportunity to kill the game at Newcastle in midweek. Bastian Schweinsteiger looks likely to miss out again with a knee injury with Phil Jones is also sidelined.

Possible Line-ups

Liverpool: 4-3-3 formation: Mignolet; Clyne, Toure, Sakho, Moreno; Allen, Can, Henderson; Milner, Firmino, Lallana

Manchester United: 4-2-3-1 formation: Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Young; Schneiderlin, Carrick; Martial, Herrera, Mata; Rooney

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Liverpool’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Liverpool played to a very high intensity in the 3-3 draw against Arsenal on Wednesday causing one of the Premier League’s best defences some serious problems . In all competitions, Liverpool have lost one of the last 13 at home. The six-goal thriller was the fourth consecutive league game without defeat at Anfield where the Reds have lost twice in the league this season having won four and drawn four.

Louis van Gaal has been criticised for Manchester United’s negative style this season but that all changed in the 3-3 draw at Newcastle on Tuesday. However they threw away a two-goal lead and failed to make inroads on the five rivals above who, all except Leicester, dropped points in the title race. United have not won in the last four away games in which they suffered defeats at Bournemouth (2-1) and Stoke (2-0).

Liverpool are unbeaten against three of last season’s top four and look ready to topple Manchester United next.
