Premier League League football tips – Manchester City vs Chelsea prediction

Manchester City are still without Fabian Delph and Gael Clichy due to injury and therefore Aleksandar Kolarov and Fernandinho will keep their places in the starting XI. Yaya Toure has been struggling with a knock from the West Brom game but should be available. Despite playing well at the Hawthorns, Wilfried Bony is expected to make way for Sergio Aguero.

Chelsea have to make do without first choice keeper Thibaut Courtois, after his sending off against Swansea and that means a start for new signing Asmir Begovic in goal. Oscar is a doubt and could be replaced by Ramires, with Fabregas moving further forward in the midfield.  Otherwise, Jose Mourinho has a full squad to choose from.

Possible Line-ups

Manchester City: 4-2-3-1 formation: Hart; Sagna, Kompany, Mangala, Kolarov; Toure, Fernandinho; Silva, Navas, Sterling; Aguero

Chelsea: 4-2-3-1 formation: Begovic; Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Ramires, Matic; Willian, Hazard, Fabregas; Costa

  • Manchester City have won 7, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Chelsea have won 3, drawn 4 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Manchester City have scored an average of 3 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Chelsea have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Manchester City’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Chelsea’s previous 10 matches
  • Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 3 meetings with Chelsea

Manuel Pellegrini will be delighted with the way Manchester City started the season at West Brom and this match is a great opportunity stretch out an early 5 point lead over Chelsea. A number of players performed well at the Hawthorns and with Sergio Aguero returning to full match fitness, the squad looks ready to mount a serious title challenge again this season.

Chelsea are already playing catch up on their rivals, following the disappointing 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge against Swansea. With Thibaut Courtois suspended, new signing Asmir Begovic makes his full debut, in one of the biggest games of the Premier League season and will be under huge pressure to perform. In addition to the poor display last week, there has also been controversy surrounding the club, following the demotion of Eva Carneiro.

This match, is the perfect chance for Manchester City to signal their intent to Chelsea and the rest of the Premier League. The question is, will Manuel Pellegrini send his team out to attack or will he be more cautious? If it’s the latter, the game could develop in to a stalemate.

We say: Draw and under 2.5 goals at 10/3 Bet365
