Newcastle vs Liverpool Prediction and Preview – 06/12/15
Premier League preview – Newcastle vs Liverpool prediction
Newcastle are one of the hardest hit clubs in the Premier League when it comes to injury, leaving manager Steve McClaren with limited options to change his struggling side. Mike Williams and Jamal Lascelles are the latest to be called in for treatment and may not be available in time for Sunday’s game. Confirmed absentees are Cheik Tiote, Tim Krul, Massadio Haidara, Emmanuel Riviere, Gabriel Obertan, Steven Taylor, Rolando Aarons and Curtis Good.
Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and is rated no better than ‘possible’ for the trip to Tyneside. Mamadou Sakho and Jo Flanagan are not expected to figure until later this month while cruciate injuries to Danny Ings and Joe Gomez will keep them out for the rest of the season. Daniel Sturridge scored twice in the League Cup tie at Southampton in midweek and is a threat to Christian Benteke’s place in the starting line up.

Prediction
Newcastle’s two victories this season have come against newly-promoted sides, Norwich and Bournemouth. After suffering heavy defeats at home to Leicester (3-0) and away at Crystal Palace (5-1), the Magpies share the worst defensive record in the league having conceded 30 goals in 14 games. Steve McClaren’s decision to bring on a defender for an attacker when 3-1 down at Palace last week says a lot about the problems Newcastle face and it’s difficult to see where the situation will improve in the short term.
Liverpool are high on confidence and Jurgen Klopp’s hand gets stronger each week, the latest being the response from striker Daniel Sturridge who scored a brace on his first start since the Merseyside derby on 4 October. Klopp’s men are making steady headway up the table and bid for a fifth consecutive win in 14 days when lining up at St James Park on Sunday
Liverpool’s last two away days have yielded ten goals against sides in a good run of form and it will be a major surprise if the Reds fail to return with anything less than three points.
