Premier League preview – Norwich vs Everton prediction

Alex Neil could name an unchanged lineup from the Norwich side that lost 2-0 at Watford last week. Wes Hoolihan is doubtful with a knee injury sustained in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal while Matt Jarvis has not recovered from the knee injury that has kept him sidelined since the end of October.

Everton’s injury problems have not improved. James McCarthy’s involvement is in doubt as he is struggling with a groin strain while Brian Oviedo and Steven Pienaar are still some way off a return from their hamstring injuries. Phil Jagielka, Tony Hibbert and Tyias Browning also remain sidelined.

Possible Line-ups

Norwich: 4-2-3-1 formation: Ruddy; Wisdom, Bennett, Bassong, Olsson; Dorrans, Tettey; Redmond, Howson, Brady; Grabban

Everton: 4-2-3-1 formation: Howard; Coleman, Stones, Mori, Galloway; Cleverley, Barry; Deulofeu, Barkley, Kone; Lukaku

Statistics

  • Norwich have won 1 drawn 3 and lost 6 of their last 10 matches
  • Everton have won 3, drawn 5 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Norwich have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Everton have scored an average of 2 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Norwich’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Everton’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Superior goal difference is keeping Norwich out of the bottom three following the defeat at Vicarage Road last Saturday. With one point from the last three games, Neil’s men need to pick up points soon but their form at Carrow Road is a concern. The Canaries have won just twice at home, to Bournemouth and Swansea, and have yet to register a home win against a top ten side.

The early kick off means Everton will go within a point of fifth-placed Tottenham with a win. The Toffees are unbeaten in the last seven competitive games and have lost just once on their travels so far this season. Romelu Lukaku scored his 50th goal in 100 appearances in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday, it was the Belgian international’s 11th goal of the season and he was scoring in his fourth consecutive game.

Norwich’s biggest weakness is defending opposition breakaways and there a few more effective teams on the counter attack than Everton. The Canaries are sure to give a good account but the visitor’s pace on the break could make the difference.
