Premier League preview – Southampton vs Swansea prediction

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is still without Fraser Forster, Jordy Clasie and Florin Gardos for the visit of Swansea. However, Koeman’s main concern will be the fitness of Italian striker Graziano Pelle, who remains doubtful for the match. Cedric Soares may make a return to the Premier League starting XI at right-back.

Swansea have no real injury or suspension concerns, the only doubt is Franck Tabanou, who in any case, is probably unlikely to make the starting XI if fit. Gary Monk may look to make a couple of changes given Swansea’s recent form in the Premier League but the bulk of the team should be the same that started against Everton last weekend.

Possible Line-ups

Southampton: 4-2-3-1 formation: Stekelenburg; Soares, Fonte, Van Dijk, Targett; Davis, Wanyama; Mane, Warde-Prowse, Tadic; Pelle

Swansea: 4-2-3-1 formation: Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor; Cork, Shelvey; Montero, Sigurdsson, Ayew; Gomis

Prediction

Southampton come in to this match having won just 1 of their 6 Premier League games this season. Home form has not been great, having lost to both Everton and Manchester United, conceding 6 goals in the process. Having yet to win a game away from home, Koeman will know that his team need to start winning home matches sooner rather than later and this could be a good opportunity to do just that.

Since defeating Manchester 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea have picked up just 1 point from a possible 6 available. The 1-0 defeat at Watford was a disappointment and Swansea have now managed just 2 goals in their last 3 games in all competitions. On the face of it, the 1-0 loss at Hull in the League Cup won’t be seen as a big problem but it all adds to a winless run of 3 games.

This is a tough one to call but Southampton could come through by the odd goal.
