Premier League football tips – Sunderland vs Norwich prediction

Sunderland manager, Dick Advocaat, will have to do without winger Adam Johnson, who is set for a spell on the sidelines with injury. In an attempt to stiffen things up defensively, Yann M’Vila could make his debut as the holding midfielder and John O’Shea could come back in to the defence.

Norwich are waiting on the fitness of Martin Olsson and Kyle Lafferty but this match could be too soon for both of them. Nathan Redmond, who had a big impact off the bench last weekend, could be called in to the starting XI, as could striker Cameron Jerome. New signing Youssouf Mulumbu, is still missing due to injury.

Possible Line-ups

Sunderland: 4-1-4-1 formation: Pantilimon; Matthews, O’Shea, Coates, Aanholt; M’Vila; Cattermole, Rodwell, Larsson, Lens; Defoe

Norwich: 4-5-1 formation: Ruddy; Wisdom, Martin, Bassong, Whittaker; Redmond, Johnson, Howson, Brady; Hoolahan; Jerome

  • Sunderland have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 5 of their last 10 matches
  • Norwich have won 6, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sunderland have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Norwich have scored an average of 2.4 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Sunderland’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Norwich’s previous 10 matches
  • Sunderland have failed to defeat Norwich in their previous 4 attempts

Sunderland had an opening weekend to forget and manager, Dick Advocaat, will want to see immediate improvements from his team, in-front of their own fans. These are the games, which Sunderland are going to have to win, in order to secure Premier League survival this season and going on last weekend’s result, it is going to be another battle to avoid relegation.

Norwich looked good in spells against Crystal Palace but Alex Neil will know, that to come away from these opening two Premier League matches with no points on the board, will be a disappointment. If Norwich can put together a 90 minute performance of the patches of promise they showed against Palace, they can definitely take something from this match.

However, whether that will be all 3 points is debatable and with Sunderland having home advantage, this one has the makings of a draw.

We say: Draw at 23/10 with Bet365
