Premier League League football tips – Sunderland vs Swansea prediction

Sunderland will be without winger Adam Johnson, who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury. However, the bulk of the squad is available for selection and that should see some changes, at least in the back four following a couple of poor performances defensively. Both Adam Matthews and John O’Shea could start the match in defence and Jordi Gomez or Jack Rodwell could some in to midfield.

Swansea have midfielder Ki Sung-yueng battling his way back to fitness and he could be available for selection. However, considering Swansea’s performance last weekend, Gary Monk will be tempted to leave the starting XI as it is and that could see Ki having to settle for a place on the bench.

Possible Line-ups

Sunderland: 4-4-2 formation: Pantilimon; Matthews, O’Shea, Coates, Aanholt; M’Vila; Cattermole, Larsson, Lens; Defoe, Fletcher

Swansea: 4-2-3-1 formation: Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor; Shelvey, Cork; Montero, Sigurdsson, Ayew; Gomis

  • Sunderland have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 6 of their last 10 matches
  • Swansea have won 3, drawn 5 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sunderland have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 1.9 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Swansea have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Sunderland’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Swansea’s previous 10 matches
  • Swansea are undefeated against Sunderland in their previous 6 meetings

Despite their fantastic end to last season under Dick Advocaat, things have once again turned sour at the Stadium of Light. Two poor performances, which has seen the team ship 7 goals to Leicester and Norwich, is relegation form and if things don’t improve against Swansea, Advocaat could be shown the door.

Swansea have been in great goalscoring form at the start of this season and should be licking their lips at the thought of taking on Sunderland’s defence. Having scored 4 goals in their opening two matches, including a double at Stamford Bridge, Gary Monk will want to take full advantage of the troubles at Sunderland but at the same time, stop his players from becoming complacent.

It’s difficult to see how Sunderland will have changed over the course of a week, from a team who have been struggling badly to a team who can defeat one of the form sides of the Premier League. The three points should be travelling back to South Wales.

We say: Swansea and over 2.5 goals at 5/2 Bet365
