Serie A preview – Atalanta vs Lazio prediction

Atalanta will have to make do without central defender Rafael Toloi, who was dismissed at the weekend in the match against Juventus. Guglielmo Stendardo is the most likely replacement at the back for Toloi. Midfielder Marcelo Estigarrabia is also unavailable but other than that, coach Edy Reja has a full squad to pick from.

Lazio are still without Stefan de Vrij at the back and forward Balde Keita due to injury. Striker Miroslav Klose is competing with Filip Djordjevic for a place up-front and if fit, the German should get the nod considering his performance at the weekend.

Possible Line-ups

Atalanta: 4-3-3 formation: Sportiello; Masiello, Stendardo, Paletta, Drame; Grassi, Roon, Kurtic; Moralez, Pinilla, Gomez

Lazio: 4-2-3-1 formation: Marchetti; Basta, Mauricio, Gentiletti, Lulic; Onazi, Biglia; Candreva, Anderson, Milinkovic; Klose

Prediction

Despite losing their opening match of the season away to Inter, Atalanta have generally done well in Serie A. They have won three of their last five league matches but have been found wanting away to both Fiorentina and Juventus recently, losing both of those games without scoring a goal. However, Atalanta are undefeated at home this season, winning three and drawing one of their four games and will be aiming to continue that fine run.

Lazio have now won four of their last five games in Serie A, including a good 3-0 home win over Torino at the weekend. A mixed start to the season, which included two heavy away defeats, has made way for a more consistent run of results through the end of September and October. The only disappointment during that period came at Sassuolo, in the way of a 2-1 defeat. Lazio have struggled away from home this season and will need to put that right, if they want to seriously challenge at the top the table.

Depending on how other results go, a win here could lift Lazio in to the Champions League places but they may struggle to do that, against an Atalanta team who are good at home.
