Serie A preview – Bologna vs Juventus prediction.

Bologna goalkeeper Antonio Mirante is back in training and hopes to be given the all clear on his thigh injury in time for the visit of Juventus on Friday. Angelo Costa has done a fine job in his absence, making several critical saves to keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory at Udinese last weekend. Central defender Luca Rossettini has another week before being considered for a return to the back four. Daniele Gastaldello is likely to provide cover with Domenico Maietta and Marius Oikonomou competing to play alongside.

Juventus centre-back Andrea Barzagli has been passed fit after limping out of last weekend’s victory over Naples but may sit out the visit to Bologna. Max Allegri faces a number of injury concerns to his back four and may save the veteran defender for the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich next Tuesday. Full back Alex Sandro is the latest concern after pulling up with a muscular issue in training this week and is likely to be rested this weekend as a safeguard. Georgio Chiellini is sidelined for the rest of this month with a leg injury and Martin Caceres is out for the remainder of the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. Midfielders Kwadwo Asamoa and Mario Lemina are close to comebacks while this game will also come too soon for centre forward Mario Mandzukic.

Possible Line-ups

Bologna 4-3-3 formation: Mirante; M’baye, Maietta, Gastadello, Morleo; Donsa, Diawara, Taider; Mounier, Destro, Giaccherini

Juventus 4-4-2 formation: Buffon; Lichsteiner, Bonucci, Rugani, Evra; Cuadadro, Khedira, Marchisio, Pogba; Dybala, Morata

Statistics

  • Bologna have won 4 drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Juventus have won 10 drawn 0 and lost 0 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Bologna have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Juventus have scored an average of 2.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Bologna’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Juventus’ previous 10 matches

Prediction

Bologna go into the game on the back of a 1-0 win at Udinese in which the stand-in goalkeeper took much of the credit for gaining the points. Roberto Donadoni’s side have lost one of the last five matches and continue to make steady progress towards a top ten finish. The home form has been a little inconsistent and while unbeaten in the last three at Renato Dall’Ara, Bologna had previously lost successive home games to Empoli and Chievo.

Juventus have won the last 15 Serie A games and last weekend’s win against Napoli takes them to the top of the table for the first time this season. Allegri’s side has only conceded one goal in ten games in all competitions since returning from the winter break on 6 January. Juve won the reverse fixture 3-1 in October and have won on their last two visits to Bologna without conceding.

Juventus have able cover for their missing defenders and can continue the winning streak in Bologna on Friday night.
