Serie A preview – Lazio vs Juventus prediction

Lazio central defender Santiago Gentiletti has served his suspension and is available to face Juventus on Friday. Felipe Anderson lasted less than an hour against Empoli after being a doubtful ahead of last weekend’s match. The Brazilian has scored four goals from midfield this season and will be an automatic choice if proving his fitness before kick off. Filip Djordjevic looks set to continue up front with Miroslav Klose preferred as an impact player from the bench.

Paul Pogba picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at  Palermo on Sunday and is forced to miss the trip to Rome. Midfield options are limited for Juventus with Hernanes, Simone Padouin, Roberto Pereyra, Kwadwo Asamoah and Sami Khedira sidelined which could mean a recall for 22-year-old Mario Lemina. Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic is the dangerman having scored in four of his last five games for club and country while Paulo Dybala has scored six in thirteen appearances for Juve this term.

Possible Line-ups

Lazio: 4-4-1-1 formation: Marchetti; Basta, Mauricio, Gentiletti, Radu; Candreva, Biglia, Parolo, Lulic; Milinkovic; Djordjevic

Juventus: 3-5-2 formation: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Cuadrado, Sturaro, Marchisio, Lemina, Evra; Dybala, Mandzukic

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Juventus have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 0.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Lazio’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Juventus’ previous 10 matches

Prediction

Lazio’s defeat at Empoli last week was a major blow to manager Stefano Pioli who described the game as ‘fundamental’ to his team’s league ambitions.  It was the fourth defeat in five Serie A games leaving the Rome outfit with one point from a possible fifteen and an ever-increasing gap to the fifth European place. Their home record against the league champions doesn’t inspire confidence with one win and one draw from their last seven encounters in Rome.

Juventus continue to close on the Serie A pacesetters after winning four consecutive league games and six of the last eight with just one defeat. Max Allegri’s men defeated Palermo (3-0) and Empoli (3-1) on the last two road trips and can go within four points of the top with victory on Friday.

Juventus won this fixture 3-0 last season and can again, take all three points without conceding a goal.
