Serie A preview – Napoli vs Torino prediction

Napoli midfielder Jorghino was sent off after being shown two yellow cards in the 3-1 win at Atalanta and will miss the visit of Torino. The Brazilian’s absence opens the way for Mirko Valdifiori to make his first start since late September. Manolo Gabbiadini returned from injury to make the bench for the Atalanta game and is destined to wait for a start given the form of his teammate Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinian striker scored two more against Atalanta to take his tally to 16 goals from 17 league games this season.

Bruno Peres will return to the Torino lineup after serving his one match ban for totting up five yellow cards this season. Secondary striker Josef Martinez sat out the last game with an injury and is uncertain to make the bench on Wednesday. Defender Nikola Maksimovic (metatarsal fracture) and midfielder Joel Obi (hamstring) are recovering from long term injury.

Prediction

Third placed Napoli will go top of Serie A if they beat Torino and if Inter and Fiorentino both fail to win their away fixtures on Wednesday. Maurizio Sarri’s side is unbeaten in 15 of its last 16 league games and went into the break challenging for honours on every front. In December, Napoli defeated Legia Warsaw 5-2 to maintain a 100% record in the Europa League, eliminated Hellas Verona 3-0 in the Coppa Italia and signed off 2015 in Serie A with a 3-1 victory at Atalanta.

Torino are struggling to find consistency this season. Their last away game was a 1-0 victory at Atalanta on 22 November which ended a run of four consecutive defeats on the road. Giampiero Ventura‘s men come into the game on the back of two defeats and a draw. They average a goal per game in seven games away from home and are capable of scoring in Napoli with their never-say-die attitude.

Napoli have only dropped four points at home this season and are expected to gain three more points at the expense of Torino.
