Serie A preview – Lazio vs Roma prediction.

Lazio midfielder Senad Lulic is suspended for the Rome derby and potential replacement Sergei Milinkovic-Savic is one of a number of injury concerns for Stefano Pioli to consider. Defenders Dusan Basta and Stefan Radu are unlikely to recover from their injuries in time but prospects are better for Santiago Gentiletti, Patric and midfielder Danilo Cataldi who will be assessed before the weekend.

Striker Edin Dzeko could be recalled to the Roma starting lineup after scoring for his country on Tuesday and in the continued absence of Ezequiel Ponce, Francesco Totti has the possibility of making an appearance at some stage. Defensive midfielder Daniele De Rossi is lacking fitness and will sit out while defender Norbert Gyomber remains sidelined as he recovers from a broken toe.

Possible Line-ups

Lazio 4-3-3 formation: Marchetti; Patric, Bisevac, Hoedt, Braafheid; Parolo, Biglia, Onazi; Candreva, Matri, Anderson

Roma 4-3-3 formation: Szczesny; Florenzi, Manolas, Rudiger, Digne; Pjanic, Keita, Nainggolan; Salah, Dzeko, El Shaarawy

Statistics

  • Lazio have won 3 drawn 5 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Roma have won 7 drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Lazio have scored an average of 1.4 goals and conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Roma have scored an average of 2.2 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Lazio’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Roma’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Lazio’s 2-0 win against Atalanta in the Olympic Stadium on 13 March was the only victory in the last five league games which resulted in three draws and one defeat in the other four matches. Lazio have been defeated twice in the last four home games, losing 2-0 to Sassuolo and 2-0 to Napoli in February.

Roma have won eight and drawn one of nine league since losing 1-0 at Juventus in January. Radja Nainggolan scored late in the game to save a point against Inter in the Olympic Stadium in their most recent match after beating Fiorentina 4-1 and Palermo 5-0 in the two previous home games. This is only an away game on paper for Roma who share the stadium with Lazio and are unbeaten in the last five derbies, winning the last two.

It is rare for more than one goal to separate the sides in the Rome derby but Roma look capable of doing so for the second time this season.
