Serie A football tips – Verona vs Roma prediction

Verona have new signing Giampaolo Pazzini available and the Italian is likely to join last season’s top goal scorer, Luca Toni, in a two-pronged attack. There are definitely goals in this striker force but at 31 and 38 years old respectively, will they be able to remain fit during the course of a long and hard Serie A season?

Roma will welcome new signings Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah in to their starting XI, in what looks a dangerous forward line. Manager Rudi Garcia also has a new goalkeeper, in Wojciech Szczęsny but it remains to be seen if either Antonio Rüdiger or Norbert Gyömbér will feature, given their late arrival to the club. Juan Iturbe is suspended.

Possible Line-ups

Verona: 4-3-1-2 formation: Rafael; Pisano, Marquez, Moras, Souprayen; Sala, Greco, Hallfredsson; J. Gomez; Toni, Pazzini

Roma: 4-3-3 formation: Szczesny; Florenzi, Manolas, Castan, Torosidis; Pjanic, De Rossi, Nainggolan; Salah, Dzeko, Falque

  • Verona have won 3, drawn 5 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Roma have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Verona have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Roma have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.8 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Verona’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Roma’s previous 10 matches
  • Roma are undefeated against Verona in 9 matches

Verona manager Andrea Mandorlini, will have the bulk of the team available, which allowed the club to achieve a solid mid-table finish last season. However, defensively they will have to improve if any progress is to be made but anything like the start to last season, where they lost just one of their opening six fixtures in Serie A, will be welcome.

In contrast to Verona, Roma could name a number of signings in their starting XI for the first match of the 2015/16 Serie A season. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how they link up together, especially the new forward line featuring Salah, Falque and Dzeko. The midfield should be recognisable from the 2014/15 campaign and has the potential to be the best in Serie A this season.

Roma will hope to go one better than last season, when they drew 1-1 in this fixture and pick up maximum points, in what could be an entertaining game.

We say: Roma to win and over 2.5 goals at 8/5 with Bet365
