La Liga preview – Real Sociedad vs Valencia prediction.

Real Sociedad striker Jonathas and midfielder Asier Illarramendi are hopeful of shaking off knocks in time for the visit of Valencia on Sunday. First choice centre forward Imanol Agirretxe is out for three weeks with an ankle wound while attacking midfielder Canales is out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury. David Zurutuza (thigh) and Estaban Granero (hamstring) are also out of the picture for coach Eusebio Sacristan.

Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes reported for treatment on Friday and his participation looks doubtful. Shkodran Mustafi is expected to start should he get the all clear on a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss the last three games. Midfielder Zakaria Bakkali and full back Jose Gaya are also doubtful with Lucas Orban set to continue providing defensive cover. An ankle injury continues to keep Sofiane Feghouli sidelined.

 Possible Line-ups

Real Sociedad: 4-3-3 formation: Rulli; C. Martinez, Elustando, I. Martinez, Yuri; Pardo, Illarramendi, Bergara; Vela, Jonathas, Bruma

Valencia: 4-3-3 formation: Jaume; barragan, Mustafi, Abdenour, Orban; Fuego, Parejo, Danilo; Cancelo, Alcacer, Paul

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Valencia have scored an average of 1.5 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game

Prediction

Real Sociedad are slipping towards the relegation zone after collecting just two points from the last four league games. They have lost half of their eight home games this season, most recently losing 2-0 against Villarreal before breaking off for Christmas. They returned to a 3-1 defeat at Real Madrid before coming from behind twice to draw 2-2 at second bottom Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Valencia have also found it difficult to pick up points in recent games with five draws and two defeats in the last seven league games. The opposition has been quite tough. The run includes draws against Barcelona and Real Madrid while the two defeats were away to Sevilla and Villarreal where they lost both matches by the only goal of the game.

Valencia’s recent performances suggest they are capable of outscoring Real Sociedad to pick up their third away win of the season
