Serie A preview – Atalanta vs Juventus prediction.

Atalanta are hoping Alessandro Diamanti and Mauricio Pinilla recover from knocks picked up against Carpi on Sunday. Rafael Toloi is available and expected to join Gabriel Paletta in the centre of defence. Andrea Conti has served his suspension and is an option at full back for Andrea Masiello. Alejandro Gomez remains sidelined for a week or two while Cristian Raimondi and Carlos Carmona are considered doubtful starters.

Max Allegri’s decision to rotate his side almost backfired when Inter took Juventus to penalties in the Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday. Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic are expected to return on Sunday with further changes in midfield and defence. Claudio Marchisio’s thigh problem turned out to be no more than a slight strain and he should be in the lineup, so too Andrea Barzagli who started on the bench in midweek. Giorgio Chiellini is still recovering from a calf injury and Martin Caceres is out for the remainder of the season.

Possible Line-ups

Atalanta 4-3-3 formation: Sportiello; Masiello, Toloi, Paletta, Drame; Kurtic, de Roon, Cigarini; D’Alessandro, Pinilla, Diamanti

Juventus 4-4-2 formation: Neto; Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Bonucci, Sandro; Cuadrado, Marchisio, Khedira, Pogba; Dybala, Mandzukic

Statistics

  • Atalanta have won 0 drawn 6 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Juventus have won 7 drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Atalanta have scored an average of 0.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Juventus have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 0.5 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Atalanta’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Juventus’ previous 10 matches

Prediction

Atalanta have not won in 12 games since defeating Palermo 3-0 in Bergamo in early December. Edy Reja’s side go into Sunday’s game on the back of a 1-1 draw in Carpi last weekend having previously lost 3-2 at home to Fiorentina.

Juventus suffered their first domestic defeat since losing 1-0 at Sassuolo in October when allowing Inter to pull back a three-goal first leg deficit in the cup. Allegri’s men made it to the final after a penalty shoot-out but the manager was not happy with the performance. The Juventus lineup will have a more familiar look this weekend as it bids to extend its unbeaten league record to 17 wins in 18 games.

Max Allegri will demand his players make amends for a bad defeat in the cup and it is unfortunate for Atalanta that they are in the firing line.
