FA Cup preview – Peterborough vs West Brom prediction.

Tom Nichols scored on his debut for Peterborough on Saturday when the Posh held on for a 1-0 win at Chesterfield after being reduced to nine men when Michael Smith and Ricardo Santos were both sent off. The defensive duo are expected to remain in the side for Wednesday’s cup tie before serving their suspension. Norwich loanee Harry Toffolo moved from Rotherham in the window and is set to feature in the biggest game of his brief career. The 20-year-old came close when given a place on the Canaries’ bench for their 3-0 League Cup win against West Brom in September.

Saido Berahino scored twice when the sides met at The Hawthorns and could get a rare start for West Brom on Wednesday. Ricky Lambert has featured in most of Albion’s cup games this term and may be preferred to Victor Anichebe who is yet to score this season. Jonny Evans is out for the rest of the month with a hamstring injury and Jonas Olsson is expected to continue providing cover.

Prediction

Peterborough kept their League One promotion hopes alive with a sensational backs-to-the-wall performance at the weekend and have a chance to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history. The Posh displayed a never-say-die spirit to come from behind twice in the fourth round proper to bring West Brom back to London Road for a replay. Peterborough won their first round match 3-0 at Burton Albion before making the most of home draws to defeat Luton 2-0 in round two and Preston, from the Championship, 2-0 in round three.

West Brom have failed to win in four games since the 1-0 victory at Bristol City in the FA Cup third round replay. They played a draw in three successive home games before losing 1-0 at Newcastle on Saturday. The Baggies reached the sixth round of the FA Cup last season while in similar league form and in Berahino, have a player who was scored seven times in six FA Cup appearances.

West Brom were fortunate at Bristol in the previous round when they lost every stat except the one that matters. They are vulnerable at present and worth opposing in favour of the underdogs.
