Europa League football tips – Vitesse v Southampton Prediction

No selection dilemmas exist for manager Peter Bosz but he will be wondering if it is even possible to wrestle this tie away from the grasp of Koeman and Southampton. A similar side to last week is expected to take the field. Dominic Solanke will not line up after only signing on a season long loan for the club from Chelsea on Tuesday.

Jordy Clasie will miss the game but the injury suffered last week is not serious and he still may feature over the coming weekend. Koeman is likely to lean on his side’s three goal advantage and rest some key names with a trip to Newcastle scheduled this coming Sunday. Gaston Ramirez looked all but set to leave St Mary’s Stadium this summer but a move did not transpire, Koeman may give the Uruguayan international a run out in this match having backed him as long as he stays fit.

Possible Line-ups

Vitesse: 4-3-2-1 Formation: Room; Diks, Kashia, Leerdam, Achenteh; Baker, Nakamba, Vako, Brown, Oliynyk; Djurdjevic

Southampton: 4-2-3-1 Formation: Stekelenburg; Martina, Yoshida, Fonte, Targett; Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, Davis, Ramirez, Rodriguez; Juanmi

Vitesse will take little solace in the fact that Graziano Pelle is unlikely to start in this match, not only do they need to score at least three goals in this match they also have to stop their former manager’s side from scoring, no easy task. Lewis Baker and Isaiah Brown may be familiar faces for some of the Southampton players having played for Chelsea under 21s before being loaned out to the Premier League Champion’s Dutch affiliates.

Koeman will expect complete professionalism from whatever XI he selects in this fixture, top clubs do not through away a three goal aggregate lead and Koeman will remind his players of this. The temptation to have one eye on the opening Premier League fixtures this weekend will have to be resisted. This competition is winnable for Southampton and the reward of a place in next seasons Champions League may result in Ronald Koeman conjuring a fully fledged assault upon it. Expect no fireworks or outrageous comeback in this, Southampton will be happy with a draw and comfortable win over two legs.
