Bundesliga preview – Werder Bremen vs Gladbach prediction

Werder Bremen manager Viktor Skripnik still has a few players working their way back to match fitness, including Ozkan Yildirim, Santiago Garcia and Melvyn Lorenzen. It’s also highly unlikely that Raphael Wolf will feature and with Fin Bartels struggling, Maximilian Eggestein will be on standby for a place in midfield.

Both Fabian Johnson and Alvaro Domínguez look set to miss out due to injury for Gladbach. However, Havard Nordtveit is back from suspension and should return to the starting XI, which could mean a more advanced role for Lars Stindl.

Possible Line-ups

Werder Bremen: 4-3-2-1 formation: Wiedwald; Gebre Selassie, Lukimya, Vestergaard, Garcia; Bargfrede, Fritz, Junuzovic; Eggestein; Johannsson, Ujah

Gladbach: 4-4-1-1 formation: Sommer; Korb, Jantschke, Schulz, Wendt; Traore, Nordtveit, Xhaka, Herrmann; Stindl; Drmic

  • Werder Bremen have won 6, drawn 3 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Gladbach have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Werder Bremen have scored an average of 2.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Gladbach have scored an average of 1.5 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Werder Bremen’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Gladbach’s previous 10 matches
  • Gladbach did the double over Werder Bremen last season in the Bundesliga

Neither team will be pleased with the start they have made in the Bundesliga this season. Werder Bremen opened off with a very disappointing 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Schalke and were then held 1-1 at Hertha Berlin. At least, at this stage, they have a point, whereas Gladback are still looking to get off the mark.

A 4-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund would have been a bit of a shock to the system and the 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Mainz was very unexpected, meaning Gladbach have a lot of work to do in order to get back towards the top of the table.

Considering the goals conceded by both teams so far this season, there should be a few on offer in this one. Gladbach need to get some points on the board before the international break and they may just sneak their first win of the season.

We say: Werder 1 Gladbach 2 at 8/1 with Bet365
