Euro 2016 football tips – Wales vs Belgium prediction

Wales can welcome back Burnley striker Sam Vokes for the visit of Belgium to Cardiff. This should mean Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey operating from midfield and pushing on in support of the striker when Wales have the ball. With recent results in mind, Chris Coleman is not going to make too many unforced changes.

Belgium have defender and captain Vincent Kompany suspended for the trip to Cardiff. This could mean a start at either full-back or in the centre of defence for Olivier Deschacht. There is real competition for places in midfield and attack for Belgium and Christian Benteke could get the nod over Romelu Lukaku upfront. Marouane Fellaini has been forced to withdraw from the squad, which could mean a start for Radja Nainggolan in midfield

Probable Line-ups

Wales: 4-5-1 formation: Hennessey; Taylor, Chester, Williams, Gunter; Cotterill, Ledley, Allen, Ramsey, Bale; Vokes

Belgium: 4-3-3 formation: Courtois; Alderweireld; Deschacht, Lombaerts, Vertonghen; De Bruyne, Witsel, Nainggolan; Mertens, Hazard, Benteke

  • Wales have won 5, drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Belgium have won 6, drawn 3 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Wales have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Belgium have scored an average of 2.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.6 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Wales’ previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Belgium’s previous 10 matches
  • The first meeting between these teams in the Group ended 0-0 in Belgium

Both teams are currently on 11 points from their opening five games and sit top of Group B. Wales have been in impressive form, firstly holding Belgium to a 0-0 and then defeating Israel 3-0, both away from home. Belgium have also made a good start to the group but will consider the 0-0 at home to Wales as 2 dropped points.

The atmosphere at the Cardiff City Stadium has been superb for Wales home matches and with the both the fans and team in confident mood, Belgium have a real fight on their hands. The loss of Vincent Kompany, in terms of playing ability and experience could be what prevents Belgium keeping a clean sheet here. Having said that, they will be confident they can score themselves, despite failing to do so against the same opposition in November.

This has the makings of a thrilling game at the top of Group B and it’s hard to see either team coming out with maximum points.

We say: Draw and both teams to score at 9/2 with Bet365
