La Liga preview – Malaga vs Getafe prediction.

The home side could be looking threadbare at the back for the visit of Getafe on Friday. Raul Albentosa is serving a one-match ban and it is doubtful that his central defensive partner Robson Weligton will recover from the hamstring strain that kept him out last weekend. Marcus Angeleri is also a doubt for Malaga and since Juan Carlos is out with a long term injury, defensive midfielder Ignacio Camacho could be asked to cover. Javi Gracia is also sweating on goalkeeper Carlos Kameni who missed training with an unknown issue and it remains to be seen whether the Cameroon international will be available

Getafe midfielder Pablo Sarabia is a possible having resumed training after missing Saturday’s defeat against Athletic Club with a shoulder injury. Santiago Vergini is set to return to centre of defence after Juan Cala was sent off last time. Roberto Lago is a slight doubt after taking a knock in the ribs. 19-year-old forward Emiliano Buendia may be an option in attack after making a brief appearance for the second team at the weekend.

Possible Line-ups

Malaga 4-4-2 formation: Kameni; Rosales, Camacho, Filipenko, Torres; Anor, Recio, Tissone, Castro; Charles, Cop

Getafe 4-2-3-1 formation: Gualta; Suarez, Velazquez, Virgini, Lago; Lacen, J Rodriguez; Leon, V Rodriguez, Gomez; Scepovic

Statistics

  • Malaga have won 5 drawn 2 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Getafe have won 4 drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Malaga have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Getafe have scored an average of 1.5 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Malaga’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Getafe’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Malaga won 2-1 at Eibar last weekend to go above Getafe in La Liga. Gracia’s men regained winning form after losing back to back games, 2-1 at Sevilla and at home to Barcelona by the same score. Gracia’s men played well in defeat against the league leaders and having created more chances, would have earned a point at least with better finishing. Malaga’s previous two home games yielded victories against Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo, and they have won this fixture for the past three seasons.

Getafe had pulled away from the relegation scrap by putting together a sequence of seven games undefeated before losing 3-2 at Granada on 23 January. The 1-0 defeat at home to Athletic Club last Saturday meant they dropped to 11th in La Liga but have a comfortable six point cushion to Rayo in 18th. Getafe have one of the worst away records in the division having picked up just five points on the road and only Las Palmas have a lower return with three.

Malaga have the credentials to make a late push for a Europa League place and can close the gap on one or two rivals with victory over Getafe this weekend.
