La Liga preview – Real Sociedad vs Betis prediction.

Real Sociedad missed their regular full-backs Carlos Martinez and Yuri in the 5-1 defeat at Gijon last weekend. Martinez is again ruled out with a hamstring problem but Yuri has a better chance of recovering from a thigh muscle injury. Esteban Granero’s hamstring is being checked daily to see if he will make Saturday’s roster. Top scorer Imanol Agirretxe and midfielders Sergio Canales and David Zurutuza remain sidelined.

Betis will be forced into changing the side that drew 1-1 against Real Madrid on Sunday. Left back Juan Vargas is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season while midfielder Foued Kadir is out with a strained hamstring. Alvaro Cejudo has missed training due to fatigue and is a slight doubt. Central defender Heiko Westermann and midfielder Alvaro Vadillo are back in training and they approach full fitness while Martin Montoya will come into the reckoning if his transfer from Barcelona is finalised on time.

Prediction

Real Sociedad look to bounce back from the 5-1 mauling at relegation-threatened Gijon last Friday. Coach Eusebio Sacristan couldn’t hide his disappointment as his team looked to be finding some form after a difficult first half of the season. Sociedad were unbeaten in three games prior to the trip to Gijon but had not won away from home since beating Levante 4-0 in October. They return to Anoeta on Saturday where they have won three of the last five games in La Liga, playing a 1-1 draw against Deportivo most recently.

Betis earned a point at home to Real Madrid last time which will raise hopes that they can soon end a run of 11 games without a win. Their away record was one of the best in the division up until defeating Levante 1-0 in November. Since then, Betis have failed to score away from home in La Liga, losing three and playing one draw.

Sociedad have been a force at Anoeta in recent weeks and can bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment with a win.
