Premier League – Arsenal v Liverpool Prediction

Arsene Wenger will not make any drastic changes to his Arsenal starting line-up for this fixture, that may not be the case come next week however, talk of Karim Benzema’s arrival from Real Madrid is picking up fast. Coquelin is likely to be trusted with marking Coutinho; should he prove successful in this, expect Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla to dictate play. Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck remain sidelined for the Gunners.

Jordan Henderson is a major doubt for Liverpool after his withdrawal during the game against Bournemouth. If Liverpool’s captain fails to take to the field Emre Can is likely to take his spot in midfield, summer recruit James Milner will take the armband. Roberto Firmino is a marquee signing and a Brazilian international, signed to win games like these for Liverpool, he may start for the first time. Alberto Moreno impressed in his cameo against Bournemouth but Brendan Rodgers is likely to persist with the young Gomez, who looks very solid defensively.

Possible Line-ups

Arsenal: 4-2-3-1 Formation: Cech; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Coquelin, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez; Giroud

Liverpool: 4-3-3 Formation: Mignolet; Clyne, Lovren, Skrtel, Gomez; Can, Milner, Coutinho; Ibe, Firmino, Benteke

A disappointing loss at home to West Ham was followed by a sturdy performance at Selhurst Park which as rewarded with three points. One of these teams is likely to miss out on the top four, Arsenal are the least likely out of the two to miss out but they still look a little toothless up top. Olivier Giroud will need to build on his goal last week in order to convince Wenger and the Gunners’ support that he is the man to lead the line at the Emirates this year.

Two wins out of two for Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers appears to have sacrificed slightly in the offensive department in order to make great strides defensively. Clyne and Gomez look wonderful additions and suddenly the whole backline looks sharper than last season. The full debut of Roberto Firmino could truly test young Bellerin of Arsenal, the Brazilian is a clever and skilful player, most importantly, he is not selfish. Does that remind you of a certain Uruguayan by any chance? Jordan Henderson may miss out of course, to lose your captain is always a blow but Emre Can was one of very few Liverpool players to do his talent justice last year, he is a more than adequate replacement.

It is time for a team other than Manchester City to make a statement in regards to the title; both of these teams will not shy from attacking one another. However, they balance out fairly evenly, Arsenal are the most likely to edge it with home advantage but Liverpool look more frugal in defence than previous seasons have shown.

We say: Score draw at 4/1 with Bet365
