Premier League – Crystal Palace v Arsenal Prediction

Alan Pardew will be without Marouane Chamakh and Julian Speroni for this game, although both are expected to return by the end of the month. Palace are likely to field two sitting midfielders, thus allowing the pace and trickery of the three behind the target man, Glenn Murray to cause Arsenal defensive problems. Yohan Cabaye will no doubt be looking to add to his debut goal from last week.

England internationals Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere are out until September. Wenger has one of the deepest squads in the league but without these two men, the Gunners’ first eleven is not too difficult to identify. Expect Olivier Giroud to take his place up front and Alexis Sanchez to return to the side, bringing an energy and clinical nature that Arsenal were sorely missing in defeat to West Ham last week.

Possible Line-ups

Crystal Palace: 4-2-3-1 Formation: McCarthy; Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare; McArthur, Cabaye, Zaha, Puncheon, Bolasie; Murray

Arsenal: 4-2-3-1 Formation: Cech; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Coquelin, Ramsey, Sanchez, Ozil, Cazorla; Giroud

  • Crystal Palace have won 6, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches.
  • Arsenal have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches.
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Crystal Palace have scored an average of 2.3 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game.
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Arsenal have scored an average of 2.4 goals and conceded an average of 0.5 goals per game.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Crystal Palace’s previous 10 matches.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Arsenal’s previous 10 matches.
  • Arsenal won both league fixtures between these clubs last season with the same score, 2-1.

Crystal Palace have no reason to fear Arsenal and with the backing of Selhurst Park expect them to take the game to the men from North London. Cabaye is a genuine top talent and his game should aid the likes of Zaha and Bolasie, direct runners looking to get in behind the opposition defence.

Anyone who tells you they thought West Ham would win at the Emirates last week is most likely lying. This has been heralded as the strongest outfit Arsene Wenger has put together since “The Invincibles” but there is still a steeliness missing. The players will undoubtedly be frustrated at last week’s result and will look to come flying out of the blocks. The return of Bellerin and Sanchez will stretch Palace; this coupled with Aaron Ramsey in a more familiar central role should bring back the fluid football we expect from Arsenal.

It quite honestly could go either way, the kind of Premier League game the neutral loves. A plucky underdog entertaining one of the “big boys” in front of their home crowd. Expect goals but maybe not a winner.

We say: Draw, both teams to score at 15/4 with Bet365
