Premier League football tips – Aston Villa vs Manchester United prediction

Havimg come away from Bournemouth with the three points last weekend, Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood, is unlikely to make any major changes to his team for the visit of Manchester United. New striker, Rudy Gestede, may come in to start the match, having come off the bench to score the winner on Saturday.

Similarly to the hosts, Manchester United are not expected to make many changes to the team which defeated Spurs 1-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday. Sergio Romero is likely to keep his place in goal and Bastian Schweinsteiger may have to settle for a place on the bench once more. Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo remain unavailable for Louis van Gaal.

Possible Line-ups

Aston Villa: 4-3-3 formation: Guzan; Bacuna, Richards, Clark, Amavi; Westwood, Gueye, Veretout; Agbonlahor, Gestede, Ayew

Manchester United: 4-2-3-1 formation: Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Young, Depay, Mata; Rooney

  • Aston Villa have won 2, drawn 4 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Manchester United have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Aston Villa have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 2 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Manchester United have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Aston Villa’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Manchester United’s previous 10 matches
  • Aston Villa have failed to defeat Manchester United in their previous 12 attempts

Although Aston Villa didn’t lift up any trees in their performance against Bournemouth, getting the victory meant it was a great start to the season for Tim Sherwood. However, Villa still have a number of new signings, looking to bed in to the team and if Rudy Gestede starts this match, six players will be making their home league debut.

Manchester United also started slowly and could easily have been a goal down before taking the lead, thanks to an own goal, against Spurs. It was a less than convincing performance from United and the fact Sergio Romero started, in place of David De Gea, would not have helped the confidence of the back four. That being said, United still ground out a winning result and head to Villa Park confident they can do a job.

The first Friday night football of the Premier League season could be a tight affair but Manchester United have that extra bit of quality to make their chances count in the final third.

We say: Man Utd to win by 1 goal at 12/5 with Bet365
