Premier League League football tips – Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa prediction

Crystal Palace could welcome new signing Bakary Sako in to the squad, as he makes progress with his fitness having missed out on pre-season. However, there is still a group of players on the treatment table for Alan Pardew, including Julian Speroni, Frazier Campbell, Kwesi Appiah and Marouane Chamakh. Loan signing from Chelsea, Patrick Bamford, will hope to feature.

Tim Sherwood may be able to welcome Carles Gil, Jack Grealish and new signing Adama Traore in to the Aston Villa squad, as all three played for the under 21’s during the week. However, both Jores Okore and Jose Angel Crespo are definitely out but striker Rudy Gestede could be ready to make his first start for the club.

Possible Line-ups

Crystal Palace: 4-2-3-1 formation: McCarthy; Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare; McArthur; Cabaye; Zaha, Puncheon, Bolassie; Wickham

Aston Villa: 4-3-1-2 formation: Guzan; Bacuna, Richards, Clark, Amavi; Veretout, Westwood, Gueye; Grealish; Agbonlahor, Gestede

  • Crystal Palace have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Aston Villa have won 2, drawn 4 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Crystal Palace have scored an average of 2.1 goals and conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Aston Villa have scored an average of 1 goal and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Crystal Palace’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Aston Villa’s previous 10 matches
  • There was just 1 goal scored in the two Premier League matches between the teams last season

Both teams come in to this match having claimed their first win of the season against newly promoted teams and suffered their first defeat, against teams aiming to win the title. Crystal Palace have strengthened their squad over the summer and have plenty of options going forward, although it remains to be seen what their preferred line-up will be.

Aston Villa on the other hand, have only conceded 1 goal this season but have only found the back of the net themselves on one occasion. There was a real lack of creativity up-front against Manchester United and Tim Sherwood may mix things up this weekend, by bringing in the likes of Grealish and Traore.

Crystal Palace come in to this match as favourites but have only won one of their previous five matches at Selhurst Park, which suggests they are set up better to play away from home. With Villa’s improvement in defence, this could be a low scoring game.
