Premier League preview – Everton vs Liverpool prediction

Everton are still without Leighton Baines, Steven Peinaar, Tom Cleverley and Tony Hibbert while Kevin Mirallas is suspended. John Stones and Seamus Coleman have picked up knocks but are expected to play and Mohamed Besic is unlikely to return.

Liverpool have already racked up their usual host of injury concerns with Jordan Henderson, Christian Benteke, Dejan Lovren, Roberto Firmino and Jon Flanagan all out.

Possible Line-ups

Everton:  4-2-3-1 formation:  Howard; Coleman, Stones, Jagielka, Galloway; McCarthy, Barry; Deulofeu, Barkley, Naismith; Lukaku

Liverpool:  3-4-1-2 formation:  Mingolet; Can, Skrtel, Sakho; Clyne, Milner, Leiva, Moreno; Coutinho;  Sturridge, Ings

Statistics

  • Everton have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Liverpool have won 3, drawn 5 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Everton have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Liverpool have scored an average of 1 goals and conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Everton’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Liverpool’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Everton have had some encouraging results of late, having not lost a game since they played Manchester City three matches in.

Conceding goals continues to be problem for the Merseysiders though as they have only kept two clean sheets in all competitions this term. However, that defensive fragitility is expected of Roberto Martinez’s style of play and his side still sit fifth in the league table.

Liverpool have a similar problem when it comes to keeping opposition teams out and have a tendency to leak goals. However they no shortage of scoring options, particularly with Daniel Sturridge back in the team and in form.

Although last season’s meeting between these rivals produced only two goals, do not be surprised if the respective keepers have a tricky afternoon.
