Serie A preview – Inter vs Roma prediction

Inter boss Roberto Mancini will have a full squad to pick from, with the exception of the suspended Felipe Melo and the injured Nemanja Vidic. With Melo out, Geoffrey Kondogbia may get a place in the starting XI although Mancini may opt to give a start to Marcelo Brozovic and keep Kondogbia on the bench.

Roma are still without Francesco Totti, Kevin Strootman and Seydou Keita. However, forward Mohamed Salah is available once more and midfield general Daniele De Rossi may also make a return to the team from injury.

Possible Line-ups

Inter Milan: 4-3-3 formation: Handanovic; Santon, Miranda, Murillo, Jesus; Kondogbia, Medel, Guarin; Perisic; Icardi, Jovetic

Roma: 4-3-3 formation: Szczesny; Florenzi, Rudiger, Manolas, Digne; Nainggolan, Rossi, Pjanic; Gervinho, Dzeko, Salah

Statistics

  • Inter have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Roma have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Inter have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Roma have scored an average of 2.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.8 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Inter’ previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Roma’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Inter Milan come in to this match undefeated in their last three Serie A matches but have only picked up one victory during that time. The team remain very tight and difficult to play against in the most part, having conceded just one goal in their last three competitive games. Inter were not very expansive before the 4-1 loss at home to Fiorentina but seem to have become even less so since that defeat.

On the other hand, Roma are one of the most entertaining teams to watch in Europe this season. Another good win in mid-week, 3-1 over Udinese, means Roma have now scored 25 goals in ten Serie A matches and they have also been finding the back of net regularly in the Champions League. Keeping them out has been a problem however, as Roma have conceded 12 goals in their last six matches in all competitions.

Chances are, Inter’s priority will be defence, especially after the Fiorentina defeat. That being said, Roma have been in electric form going forward and if Inter invite Roma on to them, they could be in trouble.
