Serie A preview – Juventus vs Roma prediction.

Juventus boss Max Allegri could name the same starting eleven that lined up for the 4-0 win at Udinese last Sunday. It would mean Daniele Rugani keeping his place in central defence should Andrea Barzagli prove his fitness. Patrice Evra is pushing Alex Sandro for his place on the left side of defence. Mario Lemina’s place in the matchday squad is doubtful as he nears full recovery from injury while Roberto Pereyra is still resting his strained thigh muscle.

Luciano Spalletti’s experimental 4-2-3-1 formation did not work out for his first game in charge and it remains to be seen if the Roma head coach keeps faith with his system against Juventus. Maicon and Gervinho were late withdrawals from the Roma squad last week and remain doubtful for the trip to Turin. There are concerns about the fitness of versatile defender Vasilis Torosidis while midfielder Seydou Keita’s hopes of a return to midfield are also in the balance.

Possible Line-ups

Juventus: 3-5-2 formation: Buffon; Rugani, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtensteiner, Pogba, Khedira, Marchisio, Sandro; Mandzukic, Dyabala

Roma: 4-2-3-1 formation: Szczesny; Falque, Rudiger, Manolas, Digne; Pjanic, Rossi; Florenzi, Nainggolan, Salah; Dzeko

Statistics

  • Juventus have won 9 drawn 0 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Roma have won 1 drawn 7 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Juventus have scored an average of 2.5 goals and conceded an average of 0.5 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Roma have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Juventus’ previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Roma’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Juventus have won the last 10 Serie A games to close within two points of league leaders Naples. Allegri’s side is finding the net with increasing regularity and average three goals per game in the last five. Juventus have a good record against Roma, finishing victorious in their last five meetings at Juventus Stadium.

Roma parted company with Rudi Garcia following a run of one win in seven league games. Spattelli’s first game in charge was met with boos as last season’s Serie A runners up failed to beat bottom of the league Verona. Roma go to Turin on the back of three successive league draws and having drawn their last four Serie A away games.

Fortunes have turned full circle since Roma beat Juventus 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium in August and the Serie A champions are expected to exact their revenge on Sunday.
